Akureyri, Iceland

Pray for the Lord to send out workers to the harvestfield of Akureyri.

1.   Pray for every child who will ride a bicycle in Akureyri today to find out Who Jesus is and what He has done to provide salvation.

2.   Akureyri is known as “Iceland’s Capital to the North,” and offers many attractions. Unfortunately, the country as a whole is known for its “social progressiveness” and flagrant disregard for traditional, conservative family values, including sanctity of life. One business headlined at https://guidetoiceland.is/best-of-iceland/top-things-to-do-in-akureyri is a spa that offers patrons the chance to bathe in beer. Pray for the most recent customer at that establishment to come to know Jesus.

3.   Over the last three nights, the Northern Lights have been more visible than usual, due to solar activity. Pray for someone in Akureyri who has enjoyed seeing them to confess the truth of Psalm 19.

Lyon, France

Pray for the Lord to send out workers to the harvestfield of Lyon.

1. The above cathedral is dedicated to John the Baptist. Construction began in 1180 and lasted 300 years, but the site’s religious history extends back to the sixth century, when a church was first built there. Pray for an attendee this month to understand and trust that “the just shall live by faith.” (Rom. 1:17)

2. Pray for a Christian family in Lyon to apply John the Baptist’s words “He must increase, but I must decrease” in their interactions with each other. (John 3:30)

3. Pray for a first grader attending the International School of Lyon to become a Christian today.

Aura, Finland

Pray for the Lord to send out workers to the harvestfield of Aura.

1. Pray for every person living in a home in this picture to have an opportunity this year to have his heart made whiter than snow.

2. Aura is named after the Aura River, and “aura” is the Finnish word for “plow.” The shape of the area is roughly that of a plow. Pray for any Christians in Aura to find strength/rest in the fact that they are in the yoke with the gentle Master, whose burden is light (Mt. 11:28-30).

3. In the Middle Ages, pilgrimages were often made to the Turku Cathedral, which is a thirty-one minute drive from Aura. Recently, Aura River Pilgrimages have begun again as an advertised way to find a spiritual connection with history and/or nature. Stops along the way range from Iron Age ritual to Catholic to Evangelical Lutheran sites. Pray for a pilgrim to meet Jesus, the only true spiritual connection to the Father’s gifts of forgiveness, purpose, and peace.

Pray for the Lord to send out workers to the harvestfield of Ballasalla.

1. The Isle of Man is a self-governing Crown dependency of Great Britain, with Viking and Celtic ethnic roots. Pray for the salvation of someone who daily commutes from Ballasalla to nearby Castletown.

2. Pray for city sanitation workers who collect from the above containers to meet the only One Who can make their hearts brilliant with His holiness.

3. Pray for a Biblical church to be planted in Ballasalla.

3. Portree is on Scotland’s Isle of Skye, which became home for several Jewish families fleeing European pograms in the last century. Pray for a Jewish family there who is concerned about everything currently happening in Israel to personally experience the truth of John 16:33.

Oslo, Norway

Pray for the Lord to send out workers to the harvestfield of Oslo.

  1. The above photo is from a room in the Center of Studies of the Holocaust. Pray for spiritual and emotional healing for any living relatives of the people whose names are listed on the walls.
  2. Around 850,000 Norwegians immigrated to America from 1825 – 1925 (about a third of Norway’s population). Many of these came to avoid religious persecution. Pray for today’s American Norwegians to hear and accept the gospel.
  3. There is a Viking Ship Museum in Oslo, with preserved ships from the 9th century. In September 2021, it closed temporarily, with plans to re-open in 2025-2026. Pray that employees of the museum, who are now out of work, will seek God’s provision for new jobs, and also delight in His provision for their spiritual needs.

Chasiv Yar, Ukraine

1.   After intense fighting, Russian forces took control of Chasiv Yar, Ukraine. This was a strategic win for Russia. Pray for those wounded in the fighting to receive care for their bodies and souls.

2.   As of summer last year, there were fewer than 1,000 civilians still living in Chasiv Yar. Most had evacuated due to the war, and the town became a fortification from which Ukraine could move troops forward. Pray for the civilians facing new survival challenges due to yesterday’s events.

3.   Pray for any Christians in Chasiv Yar today to continually be aware of the Lord’s presence with them, come what may.

Happy Resurrection Sunday!

He is not here, for He is risen, as He said…” (Matt. 28:6)

For the Christian, there is nothing quite like the triumphant joy of Easter morning. Jesus wins! Sin and death are defeated forever; the victory is eternally the Son’s. Hallelujah!

Below are the lyrics for my favorite Easter hymn, written by Charles Wesley. For today, let’s have all our TGP time focus on the adoration of our great Savior. Also below is a link to a full orchestra and church singing “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today.” Please open the link, turn up the volume loud enough that the music fills your room, and read or sing the words along with them.

https://youtu.be/nrI2sBiIDxE?si=zHaTRbLoLbErGoIA

1 Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say: Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heav’ns, and earth, reply: Alleluia!

2 Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Dying once He all doth save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

3 Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids Him rise, Alleluia!
Christ hath opened Paradise, Alleluia!

4 Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

Volga River (Russia): Europe

Nicknamed both “Mother Volga” and the “National River of Russia,” the Volga is also Europe’s longest river. It originates in the Valdai Hills, and empties into the Caspian Sea. Moscow and four other of Russia’s ten largest cities are within the Volga’s drainage basin. Many different ethnicities, such as Slavic tribes, have lived along the river’s banks.

1.   Pray for the Word of God to penetrate a Slavic tribe which has been resistant to Christianity.

2. Pray that this Easter weekend will be the date of new birth for someone in Moscow who has been religious but had no personal relationship with the resurrected Christ.

3.   Wheat farming and the petroleum industry are major economic contributors in the Volga River valley. Pray for Christian workers in both of these lines of work to be encouraged in their walk with God.

Seine River (France): Europe

From its source near Dijon to its discharge into the English Channel, the Seine River drains most of Northern France, and its history is inseparably linked to the nation’s. Dating back to 500 BC, the largest ancient bronze vessel in the world (5 feet, 5 inches tall) was found in a burial mound for the Lady of Vix. Additionally, this week in AD 845 Vikings sailed up the Seine and looted Paris. In modern history, the Seine River was part of the WW2 Allied campaign to free France from Nazi control. It was also the location for the 1900 Summer Olympics, and will be again for the opening international boat parade of this year’s Summer Olympics. However, since 1923 river swimming has been banned, because pollution has been a problem for 500 years.

1.   Pray for someone involved in planning the upcoming Olympic boat parade to trust Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.

2.  Missionary endeavors in France typically take a long time to see results, due to the characteristic European mindset regarding Christianity. Pray for a missionary there to be encouraged to keep serving Jesus today.

3.  Pray for a family planning to attend Easter mass this weekend to hear about the correct Biblical way of salvation, and believe.
