  1. Pray for the Holy Spirit to continue His convicting work today in the lives of both the owner and chauffeur of this limosine, and for their responses to be obedience to His pull to believe on Jesus.
  2. The Strivers’ Row neighborhood to the right of our map marker was so named a century ago because it symbolized success for those who were able to buy houses there. Pray for a family currently living in Striver’s Row who has a similar concept of earning eternal life, that they will realize the only way to make it to heaven is to accept God’s free gift; personal merit can never earn salvation.
  3. Behind the engine of the limousine is a white cooler holding ice for sale. Pray for the next person who restocks bags of ice there to meet, trust, and love Jesus.

Special Request: Earthquakes

Please take an extra moment today to pray for people affected by recent earthquakes.

On Friday, Myanmar had its largest quake of the last hundred years, with the epicenter being in the country’s second most populous city. The current death toll of 1,644 is expected to rise. Humanitarian aid, rescue, and recovery efforts have been extremely difficult, and the Myanmar military has made a rare plea for international help. Pray for the Lord to meet the dire spiritual and physical needs of Myanmar’s people, each one a soul for whom Jesus died. Pray also for those in neighboring countries such as Thailand that were adversely affected by the earthquake.

Just this morning, we prayed for someone from Tonga to become a Christian. Also today, a couple large quakes occurred near Tonga, with several aftershocks and a resulting tsunami warning issued (currently lifted). Thankfully, no fatalities have been reported, but events like today’s can help people contemplate their standing before God and readiness to meet Him. Pray for today to be the day of salvation for not just one, but many of Tonga’s residents.

Sunday Songs Series: “Jesus Shall Reign”

I Timothy 1:17

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Isaac Watts wrote “Jesus Shall Reign” in 1719, which he based on Psalm 72. It has since been called “the first missionary hymn,” and continues to encourage believers that our God is indeed King. One example of this hymn from each of the three centuries since it was written will be given:

In 1862, 5,000 Tongans sang it as a joyous testimony to the fact that Christ’s reign had reached even them – former cannibals who had lived in darkness for centuries.

In 1925, Eric Liddell, the famous Olympic gold medalist who would not run on Sunday, left Scotland to be a missionary to China. As his train was about to depart, the crowd who had come to see him off asked for a speech. “Christ for the world, for the world needs Christ,” Eric said, and then led them in singing “Jesus Shall Reign.” Eighteen years later, he died from an inoperable brain tumor while at the Weixian Internment Camp, his last words still reflecting Jesus’ kingship: “It’s complete surrender.”

On Sunday, February 25, 2018, over 1,000,000 people from 77 countries sang “Jesus Shall Reign” as a reminder to focus on reaching the world for Christ.

Let us today be encouraged by the fact that Jesus shall, indeed, reign over all, just as Psalm 2, Philippians 2, and many other Scriptures declare. No political, religious, economic, or satanic forces can stop the Father’s ultimate agenda from being enacted. It is good to be on His side.

  1. Pray for someone in Tonga to be saved today.
  2. Pray for a Chinese athlete to be saved today as well.
  3. Verse 3 includes the phrase, “And infant voices shall proclaim their early blessings on His name.” Pray for God to multiply the number of Christian parents worldwide who strive to make this goal a reality.

  1. Notice the blue fire hydrant at the bottom left of the picture. A blue hydrant indicates a connection to a large water main, typically meaning that there would be a water flow of 1500 gallons per minute, suitable for fighting large fires. (The standard red fire hydrant is at the lowest end of the spectrum of hydrant colors, meaning that water flow would be less than 500 gallons per minute.) Pray for the salvation of the person whose job it is to oversee the inspection / maintenance of fire hydrants in the Sugar Hill neighborhood of New York City.
  2. Pray for the next Christian who looks out one of the pictured building’s corner windows, that he or she will view current life circumstances through the window of faith in God’s promises, as opposed to an impossible wall of obstacles.
  3. The green area at the left end of the block that our map marker is on is the Carmansville Playground. Pray for the Lord to save and call a boy to preach from among the children who frequent the playground.

  1. With only 8.32 miles to go, we are on the home stretch of our virtual prayer walk. Today finds us in Upper Manhattan, where we will walk south to Central Park, eventually ending up about 15 blocks away from our starting area last December 1st. Pray for someone who regularly goes walking at the Highbridge Recreation Area to decide to follow Jesus before our prayer walk is complete.
  2. Pray for every person who sits on this bench today to have a clear opportunity to believe the gospel before the end of 2025.
  3. Pray for the Lord to encourage and bless the ministries of Biblical churches in Upper Manhattan, that they may bring forth much fruit for His glory.

  2. Pray for a mechanic who has serviced the pictured truck to meet a Christian, for gospel focused conversations to occur, and for the mechanic to be receptive to the truth.
  3. Our current map location is near Plimpton Avenue, named after George A. Plimpton (1927-2003), a talented American author known for his congeniality. In descriptions of his accomplishments and characteristics, there is, unfortunately, no reference to his religious beliefs. George had three daughters and a son, so pray for each of them to accept Christ as personal Savior.

  1. Pray for a lost person who plans to go today to cash a check at this corner business to realize the most important “check” to cash is God’s written offer to fully pay the wages of sin for anyone who believes. Pray for that lost individual to then enact that transaction with God.
  2. Pray for a Christian who will use this corner business to get help with income tax preparation to live a life of integrity, in finances and all other areas.
  3. We are not far from the Shield of David Institute, which provides support services to the disabled. Pray for someone receiving help from Shield of David to know the Son of David, and find joy in His promise to make all things new at the dawn of eternity future.

Sunday Songs Series: “Amazing Grace” from 50 Countries

Revelation 5:9

And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,

“Amazing Grace”… How should we introduce this song? We could mention statistics like the fact that it has been recorded on over 11,000 albums, and is likely the most popular Christian song of all time. We could mention its global appeal, from John Newton’s testimony that first penned it, to translations in a myriad of languages and dialects, all the way around the world and back to the United Kingdom’s Scottish bagpipers. We could talk about the joy its truth brings new believers, and the hope and comfort it whispers at funerals.

But if you know, you know… and the song really needs no other introduction. His grace is and always shall be amazing because He is amazing. And all God’s people said, “Amen.”

  1. Pray for today to be the day of salvation for a person from each of the 50 countries represented in the linked song.
  2. Pray for Christians from each of those 50 countries to be encouraged today by the fact that the same grace that has brought them through many dangers, toils, and snares will lead them all the way Home.
  3. Pray for a person living in your town/city who has been resisting the convicting work of the Holy Spirit in relation to sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8-10). Pray for the second verse of Amazing Grace to become a reality in that person’s soul: it is God’s grace that teaches a heart to fear, and the same grace which relieves that fear.
