Denmyoji Temple (Tokyo, Japan)

Pray for the Lord to send out workers to the harvestfield of Tokyo.

1. The contrast between traditional and modern architecture is easily seen in today’s picture. Both building types symbolize a common theme in current Japanese culture – seeking to blend ancient and contemporary elements to provide meaningful purpose to desired life pursuits. Pray for a person caught in the quandary of trying to figure out if ancient or modern ideals are best to discover that the God of the Bible – Who is both the Ancient of Days and the ever-present I Am – is the ultimate One worth wholly pursuing, for “our hearts are not at rest until they find their rest in Thee.” (Augustine)

2. The brown roofed building is the Buddhist Denmyoji Temple. Pray for a priest working at the temple to experience the saving grace of God, thus becoming part of the priesthood of believers who are eternally promised access to the Most High God because of the work of His Son.

3. Continue praying that you will meet a Japanese person and have an opportunity to witness to that individual.

Bangkok, Thailand

Pray for the Lord to send out workers to the harvestfield of Bangkok.

  1. Pray for anyone who may stand today on a balcony in this picture to have a view of God’s higher ground spiritually.
  2. Pray for two shoppers in this square of businesses to realize that they are a treasure in the sight of God, for which He gave everything to redeem.
  3. Pray for an orphan in Bangkok to be adopted into a loving home, and also into God’s forever family.

Bunkyo City (Tokyo, Japan)

Pray for the Lord to send out workers to the harvestfield of Tokyo.

Photo from the Conqueror Virtual Challenges app

1. Bunkyo City is the fifth ward of Tokyo for us to pass through in our virtual prayer walk. Pray for five people in Bunkyo to hear the gospel for the first time this week, and respond in faith.

2. Pray for the next utility worker to service the pictured power lines, that he will meet the omnipotent God Who  made electricity, and Whose power alone defeats sin and the grave.

3. Junior High can be a tough time for kids, especially as it relates to being made fun of by their peers. Pray for any Christian students attending the Bunkyo City Junior High School who have been made fun of because of their faith in Jesus, that the Lord will meet the needs of their hearts, assuring them of His continual presence with them. That gift is the best way to make it through tough days.

Saturday Morning Recap

Luke 9:24

For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.

1. Rikugien Gardens (Tokyo, Japan): One beautiful aspect of Rikugien’s illumination shows is how the vibrant fall colors of the leaves are reflected in the pond. Pray for Christians in Tokyo to beautifully reflect the character of their Savior, that all who see their lives may see something of Him.

2. Arue, French Polynesia: Pray for a Christian in Arue who is being tempted by the pull of materialism to remember the lasting satisfaction he already possesses in Christ.

3. Your Choice: Please pray for a request you remember from one of the locations featured this week in our Tokyo prayer walk:

Tohaku Cha-kan (tea house)

Grand Maison Sendagi Ichibankan (apartment complex)

Intersection of Rte. 17 & Rte. 437 (building with Bunkyo Orthopedic Surgery and Denny’s)

Thank you for praying!

Intersection of Rte. 17 & Rte. 437 (Tokyo, Japan)

Pray for the Lord to send out workers to the harvestfield of Tokyo.

Photo from the Conqueror Virtual Challenges app

1. The top floor of the pictured building is Bunkyo Orthopedic Surgery. Pray for the next child on the surgery docket to hear that Jesus loves him / her, understand what that means, and believe.

2. The building’s ground floor is a Denny’s restaurant. A separate company from the US chain, Denny’s Japan Co. serves both American and Japanese entrees (bacon & eggs or grilled cheese sandwiches to rice porridge with shrimp & chicken or tsukimi wakami udon). Pray for the Lord to bring the message of salvation into the life of a cook at the above franchise, and for it to stay at the forefront of that individual’s attention until he / she believes.

3. Today marks the halfway point of our Tokyo virtual prayer walk; we have logged 23.06 miles, thereby completing 51% of the total 45 mile route. Known only to God are the specifics of each of our lives – how many days will comprise our time on Earth, and what all the details of those days will be. Pray that each person in Tokyo for whom God knows that today is the 51% completion marker of years to be lived here, that He will work afresh in every one of those lives, to draw them to Himself.

Rikugien Gardens (Tokyo, Japan)

Pray for the Lord to send out workers to the harvestfield of Tokyo.

Photo from the Conqueror Virtual Challenges app

1. Just as in the USA, it is currently autumn in Japan. Cooler temperatures and beautiful foliage are enjoyable aspects of the season. Pray that someone coming to Rikugien Gardens today to enjoy these things will think of any previous witness to the Creator that has been previously received, and respond in faith.

2. “Rikugien” means “garden of the six principles,” which refers to the six elements of Waka poetry. The garden was built from 1695-1702, and includes a large central man-made pond and surrounding man-made hills. A highlight of the current season is the garden’s night time illumination shows of the vibrant fall leaves. Pray for a family who is in the process of procuring tickets for the first show next month to meet the Light of the World, be awed by His glory, and follow Him.

3. One beautiful aspect of Rikugien’s illumination shows is how the colors of the leaves are reflected in the pond. Pray for Christians in Tokyo to beautifully reflect the character of their Savior, that all who see their lives may see something of Him.

Grand Maison Sendagi Ichibankan (Tokyo, Japan)

Pray for the Lord to send out workers to the harvestfield of Tokyo.

Photos from the Conqueror Virtual Challenges app

1. Grand Maison Sendagi Ichibankan is a 12-story apartment complex in Tokyo. Pray for a gospel preaching church to start an outreach to the apartment residents.

2. As we are looking at the top still-life picture of the stairs in between the buildings, God can see it in real-time. He sees and knows everything about people who may be going up or down the stairs at this very minute. Pray for Him to work in the lives of whoever is on the stairs at the time you read this prayer request.

3. The lower picture is from the same spot as the top one, only with the camera pointing up instead of forward. The sky seems so far away due to the height of the buildings. Pray for a Christian in Tokyo who feels dwarfed in comparison to difficult life circumstances, for that individual to realize that even if the Lord seems far away, He is always very present – both Sovereign and compassionate toward His children.

Tohaku Cha-kan (Tea House in Tokyo, Japan)

Pray for the Lord to send out workers to the harvestfield of Tokyo.

The top two photos are the result of a Google search on Tohaku Cha-kan; the third photo is from the Conqueror Virtual Challenges App.

1. Located on the grounds of the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno Park, Tohaku Cha-kan is a very upscale tea house and restaurant, featuring historically based furnishings and exquisite local cuisine. The building itself was first built almost 300 years ago, and has been moved from its original location. Tohaku Cha-kan is closed on Mondays, so pray for a customer who will visit the tea house tomorrow, hoping that the experience will bring a sense of inner tranquility. Pray for that individual to meet Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

2. Today is Sports Day, one of Japan’s national holidays. Commemorating the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, the goal of this holiday is to promote sports and an active lifestyle. School events (similar to Field Day competitions in US elementary schools), community events, family friendly activities, and martial arts competitions will be held throughout the country. In several New Testament passages, the Christian life is compared to athletic competitions. Pray for Christians across Japan participating in Sports Day events to wholeheartedly engage in the Christian race as described in 1 Cor. 9:24-27 and Heb. 12:1-3.

3. Not far from our current map marker is both the Taito Ward Ueno Junior High School and the Kanei-ji Buddhist Temple. Pray for a student at the school who has visited the temple to meet a Christian who exhibits Christlikeness, and for that student to choose the only Way, Truth, and Life.

Arue, French Polynesia

Pray for the Lord to send out workers to the harvestfield of Arue.

  1. Pictured above is the tomb of King Pomare V. Google Earth states that it is “temporarily closed.” Although they are referring to the on-site museum, that statement is also true for the people in all graves worldwide (John 5:28-29). Pray that many people in Arue will make preparations now for their future eternal destiny.
  2. Pray for a Christian in Arue who is being tempted by the pull of materialism to remember the lasting satisfaction he already possesses in Christ.
  3. Pray for an athlete competing in the Arue Stadium to press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14).

Galatians 6:9-10

This post was originally published on May 9, 2022. The museum has since reopened.

Saturday Morning Recap

Luke 9:23

Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

1. The “Impossible”: The one you know – Pray for the individual you personally know who is so blind to his / her own condition that it seems like he / she would never believe the gospel. Pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to work in that life, and for the miracle of repentance to occur.

2. Akhisar (Thyatira), Turkey: Jesus sent the church in Akhisar (Thyatira) a message in Revelation 2:18-29. Pray for modern believers there to continue loving and serving the Lord, and to abstain from physical and spiritual fornication.

3. Your Choice: Please pray for a request you remember from one of the locations featured this week in our Tokyo prayer walk:

Ueno Park

Yushima Fuji Building

Hitotsu Bridge

Kanda Myoujin Shrine
