Thank you to a TGP team member from Vermont for submitting today’s hobby for our Summer Series!
Transcending continents and millennia, weaving has long been both a practical skill and art form. From handheld to room sized looms, elementary age art students to senior citizens, weaving is enjoyed by countless people in a variety of applications.
Not surprisingly, weaving is referenced many times throughout the Bible. A notable example in the Old Testament is God’s instructions regarding curtains for the Tabernacle: “Moreover you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine woven linen and blue, purple, and scarlet thread; with artistic designs of cherubim you shall weave them.” (Exodus 26:1ff)
In weaving these beautiful curtains, the weavers themselves could worship God. A New Testament weaving example was doubtless a very similar act of worship: “Now the tunic [of Jesus] was without seam, woven from the top in one piece.” (John 19:23b)
1. Thank God that He has given His children so many ways to worship Him – any skill can be offered to Him in loving adoration.
2. Our lives have often been compared to weavings, with God the Master Weaver alone knowing how all of the various colored threads (events) work together to make the beautiful pattern He has in mind. Pray for a weaver in the country of Tunisia to receive God’s gift of salvation, that his or her life may be such a weaving.
3. Pray for Christian weavers in China to be encouraged by the Father’s care for them through His providing supplies for them to make weavings.
